Lipolysis What Is It And Why Do I Need To Know?

If you haven't read about laser liposuction or more correctly laser-assisted liposuction then I'd be amazed there are promotions in magazines, in bill boards and of course on the internet but is laser liposuction a good idea or should it be avoided at all cost.

It's a good question which is being asked by both surgeons and patients alike and it seems that the pro's and con's of laser liposuction and its uses are not as clear cut as you might imagine.

Some of the biggest fans of laser liposuction are the rich and famous but it's often hard to get them to even admit the procedure let alone extol it's benefits or otherwise.

But one thing we do know those who have had it have noticeably less bruising and it also has a great effect on tightening the skin.

Some other surgeons are less keen to use it saying it just makes regular liposuction cost more and there is a possiblity of burns from the high intensity lasers uses to disolve the fat.

Yes I know it sounds a little unpleasant but with laser liposuction the surgeons use a laser to liquify the excess body fat before sucking it out with a vacuum.

It is thought the laser also stimulates the production of elastin and collagen which helps firm and tighten the skin leaving it feeling smoother.Another benefit from using a laser is it helps coagulate the small blood vessels and as a result less bruising occurs.

Expert surgeons believe that where there is loose skin laser liposuction is favored over the more traditional method which tends to leave more flabby skin. However if the patient is too old to produce new elastin and collagen then the laser option probably won't be so adventageous.

Some surgeons are worried that by using lasers in the cosmetic surgery procedure there is a risk of burning but those who advocate laser lipo say it is just a case of skill and careful monitoring of the temperature.

Some surgeons who do not recommend the laser liposuction procedure believe the risk to the body by burning cells is too great and do not do the procedure as they believe the margin of error to be to small to be an acceptable risk.

These anti liposuction surgeons say the skin tightening alone is not enough to justify in their view the more risky procedure.

It seems for now at least some surgeons will continue to claim the procedure is totally safe and reduces the rate of recovery while others claim that laser liposuction places a unacceptable on the patient and will continue to only offer regular liposuction. Who is right well the jury is still out on that one.
